Morley Safer, veteran TV journalist whose name is forever entwined with the long-running CBS program “60 minutes,” has died at 84. He filed 919 reports with the program, the most recent in March, 2016. His work as a war correspondent in Vietnam was ground breaking, bringing the fog of war to the living rooms of American citizens for the first time in history.

Safer’s storytelling acumen was legendary, and his talent for the television interview was second to none. Together with a handful of top television journalists, including Harry Reasoner, Ed Bradley, and Mike Wallace, Safer used the “60 minutes” platform to pioneer new ground, re-inventing the feature news interview for TV.
